LOL @ minidisc in bold. That shit went nowhere fast huh? :) Actually it didn't really go away, but it never gained mass popularity either. I have a deck to record onto minidiscs at home and regulary record music onto blanks which are still readily available at any Best Buy. It's actually pretty handy, but that's another discussion :) OK, you only have one set of ins, so I would suggest getting an FM modulator for your CD changer and using the ins for the XM. Was actually thinking about that.
Not sure what you mean by the HU is not recognizing the SkyFi signal. The changer has RCA cables and a special cable that also plugs into the back of the head unit. That cable connects Sony changers to Sony head units. The audio is delivered through the RCA cables and the commands and data(disc, track etc.) are sent through the other cable. If the data cable is not plugged into the HU 'CD' is not given as an option when selecting the audio source(i.e. minidisc, FM/AM tuner or CD changer). If the changer plug is not attached my only two source options are 'minidisc' and 'FM /AM tuner'. So with the data cable plugged in, I choose the CD changer as the source but instead of getting the audio signal through RCA inputs from the changer, it's coming from the Skyfi. So the CD changer is actually operating and playing CDs but not sending the audio signal to the HU because the RCA cable from it aren't connected. If I didn't have the changer cable plugged in I wouldn't have a source selection on the HU to play the XM through. Hope this is clear as mud. :) Are you currently hooking the one input up to a Y-cable to go to both sources? No. If you have a problem hooking up the XM only, then it may be an input/output mismatch either in voltage or impedance of the line outs of the XM unit. It would be nice if when selecting the source on the HU it had an 'Auxiliary' option to recognize whatever was coming through the RCA inputs. As far as mounting, are you a smoker? I think an ideal stealth location could be the current ash tray, but it appears to be a little big for that area. Not a smoker, but it would definitely be too big to put there. I'm kinda wishing I would have gone with a new XM compatible head unit. But then what would I do with all these minidiscs?! :P
